Dispelling the Myths

Here are some of the comments people have made to me about their thoughts on Hypnotherapy

I don’t have any faith in weird therapies

Nor do I. You’ll be glad to know that hypnotherapy isn’t weird. It is based on scientific reasoning and evidence, such as brain scans. The reasons why it works can be clearly explained. Many other therapies cannot be explained or shown to work.

Nobody could hypnotise me

Sure, you could block it if you wanted to, But you wouldn’t be coming to me if you wanted to do that. Hypnotherapy isn’t some kind of conjuring trick that is done to you. It is two minds co-operating to get you into a deep relaxation. That’s when your subconscious kicks in and you recognise the solutions that are right for you.

There’s a lot of trust involved, I mean you could make me tell you too much while I’m asleep. And I don’t want to end up doing stupid things, like clucking like a chicken!

Rest assured I don’t want that either! Hypnotherapy isn’t a bit like what you might see at a staged event. Even if you do become so relaxed that you doze off, you’re in control of yourself at all times.

What if I don’t go under?

It isn’t an anaesthetic! All I encourage you to do is relax physically, which helps you to relax mentally. You remain aware of what is happening.

What if I can’t go into a trance?

Well, you go in and out of trance many times a day, when you’re doing anything that doesn’t need your full concentration; like when you’re walking, taking a shower, watching TV or whatever. It may take a little bit of getting used to when you’re on the couch, but people soon get really good at it. All I ask you to do is relax.

Some years ago my brother tried hypnotherapy to give up smoking and it didn’t work.”

It is difficult to comment as I don’t know what that therapist was like or how he or she worked, but the smoker needs to want to give up.  At that stage, hypnotherapy can make a person feel really positive and empowered, so that it’s so much easier.

Is it brainwashing?

Absolutely not. Hypnotherapy is when a client, who has free will, works with a therapist to achieve an outcome (e.g. lose weight, banish fear, etc). On the other hand, brainwashing is the result of removing a person’s free will through some evil method, so they cannot resist what they are being forced to do and believe. That’s not hypnotherapy!

Testimonials

After Sarah explained how hypnotherapy worked I must admit I was still a little sceptical – surely something so severe could not be ‘cured’ by such a simple process but I promise you IT WORKS!

I can honestly say Sarah has been a great help with a lot of my anxieties. I have had panic attacks and since I have had hypnotherapy I have not had any. I do not feel as stressed as I have been in the past. I am a lot more laid back not rushing as much as I used to. Thanks Sarah for all your help.

I attended the “Zap your Anxiety” workshop on Sat 25th April 2015 with Sarah. I really enjoyed the session & found it very interesting & informative. The hypno session really relaxed me so much so I fell asleep & then felt really calm & floaty & I had the best nights sleep in ages.
